SCIENCE EVENT OF THE YEAR

Edvard Moser at ESET Science Award 2025

Doctor Moser is a neuroscientist and Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine in 2014, known for discovering grid cells, key to spatial navigation. He directs the Kavli Institute at NTNU, where he studies brain mechanisms of memory and space. His work, with May-Britt Moser, has revolutionized our understanding of cognitive mapping in the brain.

GALA EVENING

Award Ceremony of the ESET Science Award 2025

The announcement of the ESET Science Award laureates is an annual celebration of science in Slovakia. The gala event is attended by representatives of the scientific community from Slovakia and abroad, ambassadors, and representatives of state institutions in Slovakia. For the third year, the event will take place under the auspices of the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia. The laureates of the ESET Science Award 2025 were decided by an international jury headed by Nobel Laureate Edvard Moser. In the category of Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia, the award went to economist Martin Kahanec. The laureate of the category Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia under the age of 35 is the philosopher Daniela Vacek and the Outstanding Academic is the chemist Ľubomír Švorc. The Public vote went to neurologist Zuzana Gdovinová.

ESET4Schools event

Come and explore how science helps us navigate truth in an increasingly complex digital world. Under the theme "Science as a Pillar of Trust", the event delved into how the scientific method, critical thinking, and evidence-based research form the foundation of trustworthy knowledge. Participants gained insight into how science is created and learned practical strategies for recognizing hoaxes and avoiding disinformation, a vital skill in today’s media landscape. The program also explored how scientific thinking fosters trust in a world filled with misinformation, and showcased real-world examples of digital threats and how they are countered through rigorous research and innovation. A special part of the event was a science-themed expo, where attendees engaged with interactive exhibits. ESET4Schools is more than just an event, it’s a call to inspire students to see science not only as a career path, but as a vital tool for understanding and shaping the world around them.

DISCUSSION

ESET Science Talks: EDVARD MOSER "Science as a Pillar of Trust"

A discussion as part of the ESET Science Award series with Nobel Prize laureate, Norwegian neuroscientist Edvard Moser, on how scientific thinking and evidence help us navigate a complex world.
Moderator: Daniel Stach
Dr. Edvard Moser received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering the principles of the brain’s spatial mapping system, which revealed the existence of so-called “grid cells” – neurons that enable us to orient ourselves in space and form reliable memories. Together with moderator Daniel Stach, a well-known Czech TV personality, they explored a pressing question: How can science help society navigate a post-truth world and restore trust in information and facts? The discussion demonstrated that scientific thinking, evidence-based research, and interdisciplinary collaboration are key to “navigating” through information and understanding a complex world. The event also included accompanying activities at the Old Market Hall (Stará tržnica) such as the interactive maze "Science is aMAZEing", symbolizing uncertainty, getting lost in information, and the search for support in facts and scientific knowledge.
