Prof. Pavel Hobza, dr. h.c., is a theoretical chemist at the Czech Academy of Sciences whose research focuses on noncovalent interactions and their applications. He is one of the most highly cited Czech scientists and has received some of the most prestigious scientific awards both in the Czech Republic and internationally.

Prof. Pavel Hobza is a researcher at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences. His research group is engaged in the theoretical and experimental study of noncovalent interactions, particularly hydrogen bonds. Studies carried out in Pavel Hobza’s laboratory at the beginning of this century, focusing on the spectral shifts accompanying hydrogen-bond formation, contributed to the formulation of the IUPAC definition of the hydrogen bond (PH is one of the authors) adopted in 2015, which is now widely used and accepted worldwide.

Prof. Hobza is the recipient of the highest scientific honours in the Czech Republic, including the "Česká hlava" Award, conferred by the Government of the Czech Republic in 2008, and the Neuron Award in 2022. He has also received major international recognition. In 2017, he received the prestigious Schrödinger Medal awarded by the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists (WATOC).
