Manuel García-Carpintero is a distinguished Spanish philosopher specializing in the philosophy of language, metaphysics, and philosophy of mind. He was born in Daimiel, Ciudad Real, Spain, in 1957, and earned both his Licenciatura (1979) and PhD (1988) in philosophy from the University of Barcelona, where he has been a faculty member since 1984.
Before joining the university, he taught at secondary schools between 1979 and 1984. García-Carpintero has held visiting positions at several prestigious institutions, including Stanford University (CSLI), MIT, NYU, Oxford, and the University of Lisbon. He was also a fellow at the Centre for the Advanced Studies in the Humanities in Edinburgh.
His research focuses on topics such as the reference of indexicals and proper names, speech acts like presupposition or assertion, fictional discourse, and consciousness and first-personal attitudes. He has published extensively in leading philosophical journals and edited volumes, contributing significantly to contemporary debates in analytic philosophy.
