ESET Science Award ročník 2024

An international commission, headed by Nobel Prize winner Emmanuelle Charpentier, selected the laureates of the prestigious ESET Science Award. Mária Bieliková, an expert in the field of artificial intelligence and the founder of the Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies, was the laureate in the category Outstanding personality of science in Slovakia. Physicist František Herman received the award in the Outstanding Personality of Science under the age of 35 category, and Igor Farkaš, an expert in artificial intelligence, received the award in the Outstanding Personality of Higher Education category. Oncologist Michal Mego received the most votes from the public and became the winner of the Public Award, in which nearly 14,000 people voted this year.

This year, the Outstanding Personality of Science in Slovakia award went to Mária Bieliková, an expert in the field of artificial intelligence with a focus on machine learning and solving the problem of information overload in the online space, and the founder of the Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies, the first independent research institute in Slovakia, whose goal is to bring excellent science to companies and connect them with the academic sector.

In the category Outstanding personality under the age of 35, the award went to the talented young scientist František Herman, who with his team at the Department of Experimental Physics of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the Charles University in Bratislava researches the theoretical physics of condensed matter.
